IITM's RTBI AGRICULTURE INITIATIVE

MANAGE

MANAGE

National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE) was established in 1987, as the National Centre for Management of Agricultural Extension at Hyderabad, by the Ministry of Agriculture, Government of India. In recognition of its importance and expansion of activities all over the country, its status was elevated to that of a National Institute in 1992 and re-christened to its present name i.e., National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management.

The policies of liberalization and globalization of the economy and the level of agricultural technology becoming more sophisticated and complex, called for major initiatives towards reorientation and modernization of the agricultural extension system. Effective ways of managing the extension system needed to be evolved and extension organizations enabled to transform the existing set up through professional guidance and training of critical manpower. MANAGE is the response to this imperative need.

The National Institute of Agricultural Extension Management (MANAGE), Hyderabad has joined hands with IITM's RTBI to implement "Mobile based e-Extension Services" for the farmers in their district. This collaborative effort began during May 2011 and is currently in the implementation phase. The registration of farmers through Voice is to be launched soon in one of the district in Andhra Pradesh. Under this initiative a farmer can register for the service through voice application and use the extension system for advisory. When the farmer calls the centre for advisory, the extension agent will be able to update the crop information through the web interface and provide him relevant advisory.

IITM's RTBI has provided support in developing the IVR application for registration and in integrating it with a web interface for updating the crop information of the farmer.
